Fruits and vegetables are rich source of antioxidants:



We should eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day becaues they are a very rich source of antioxidants.
 
Best sources of Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables:

Vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene, selenuim and zinc are common antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables. Colorful fruits and vegetables contain the highest level of these antioxidants, especially those that are purple, blue, red, orange and yellow. Dark leafy greens also contain high levels of antioxidants as well as calcium, iron and other minerals for overall health.

Why antioxidants are important for a healthy life

Antioxidants are plant chemicals that have the power to neutralize free radicals, which are harmful compounds that are both generated inside human bodies and found in pollutants like cigratte smoke. Reducing free radicals can only improve human health because the oxidants damage they cause to human cells is believed to trigger various chronic diseases.

Free radical damage has been linked to different diseases:

 
  • Cancer
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Cataracts
  • Age related macular degeneration  and to the aging related process

Antioxdants are very good for the prevention of different diseases like heart disease and cancers.

  • The antioxidants like vitamin E may protect against cardiovascular disease by defending against plaque formation in the arteries.
  • The antioxidants like vitamin C defend against cancers of mouth,layrnx and esophagus.
